Ferris began life as a milking company in upstate New York in 1909. The company did well until the later half of the 20th century when its fortunes waned due to the decline of the dairy industry in the area.
The company's fortunes were revived in the mid-eighties when Dave Ferris, a third generation member of the Ferris family, saw a commercial lawnmower and decided his company could produce better.
Now part of the Simplicity Group, Ferris employees still share a common goal. They aim to produce the best zero turn mowers in the industry.
Ferris are well known as the inventors of the only suspension systems for zero turn mowers.
Ferris are well known for their commitment to motor sports, indeed they were named the official Zero-Turn lawnmower of the Lowes Motor Speedway for the second year running on May 1, 2008.
